The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a government-authorised statutory body in India. It was established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It comes under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The firm is built to ensure safety and quality standards across the country. FSSAI keeps an eye on the available food to ensure that it is safe, hygienic and meets prescribed quality standards.

Going forward, it also keeps a check on the stages of the food supply chain. This includes manufacturing, processing, storage and distribution. This government body is also entitled to look after the sale and import of food products as well. FSSAI has established science-based standards for food safety.
