CUET UG 2026: What is Class 12 Rule for B.A. English? 

The Class 12 Rule (also known as the Subject Mapping policy) is a mandatory criterion required by Delhi University. This mandate is also implemented by several other participating central universities.

To understand this better, students can only appear for CUET UG exams in the subjects they have studied. They should have passed the subject during Class 12 board examinations. One cannot go for the subject on the basis of how easy the subject is for you.

  • Students should select English from Section 1A (Languages) in the CUET form.

  • As per the rule students must have studied and passed English as a subject in Class 12th board exams (as Core or Elective).

  • If your school's medium of instruction was regional, or if you solely studied languages like Hindi or Sanskrit in Class 12 without taking English as a formal subject, you are normally disqualified for the B.A. (Hons) English program at DU.
