NEET PG Counselling 2025: 95,913 More Candidates Eligible After Cut-Off Reduction, NBEMS Tells Supreme Court

NEET PG 2025: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has informed the Supreme Court that a total of 95,913 additional candidates have been considered eligible for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counselling. These candidates have been considered eligible after the qualifying cut-off percentile was reduced. 

The NBEMS in an affidavit told the Supreme Court, in response to a petition challenging the reduction in the qualifying cut-off percentiles for NEET PG 2025-26, that changing the decision now would negatively impact the affected candidates. The affidavit read, "It is ex-facie apparent that pursuant to the lowering of cut off, 95,913 additional candidates have now become eligible to participate in the counselling for NEET PG 2025."

The affidavit stated that NBEMS was not involved in lowering the cut-off. It further mentioned that the decision was made by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the National Medical Commission (NMC).

NBEMS Reduces NEET PG 2025 Cut-offs 

The Supreme Court of India requested a response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) decision to lower the qualifying cutoff percentile for NEET PG admissions for the 2025-26 academic year.

With more than 18 thousand vacant postgraduate medical seats, the board lowered the qualifying percentiles for NEET-PG 2025 admissions. The cutoff for reserved categories was reduced from 40th percentile to zero, allowing even those with scores as low as minus 40 out of 800 to participate in the third counselling round. For the general category, the cutoff was lowered from 50th to the seventh percentile.
