India's higest ever ICC Men's T20 World total came after 19 years in its Super-8 stage match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 26 February 2026.
The foundation for this monumental total of 256/4 was laid by a ruthless collective effort from the Indian batting lineup. Abhishek Sharma led the charge as the top scorer, smashing a blistering 55 off just 30 balls, laced with four boundaries and four maximums.
The middle and lower order capitalized on this explosive start, with Hardik Pandya playing a devastating unbeaten knock of 50 from a mere 23 deliveries.
The onslaught was relentless, as Tilak Varma provided a spectacular late surge with an unbeaten 44 off only 16 balls at a phenomenal strike rate of 275.00. Crucial momentum was also sustained throughout the innings by Ishan Kishan, who added a solid 38 off 24 balls, and captain Suryakumar Yadav, who showcased his trademark 360-degree aggression with a quickfire 33 off just 13 balls.
Together, this combined barrage completely dismantled the Zimbabwean bowling attack and etched India's name into the record books.
218/4 vs England cricket team – Durban, 2007
India’s second-ever T20 World Cup total came during the inaugural tournament in 2007 at Kingsmead, Durban. The highlight of this match was Yuvraj Singh’s historic six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad. India posted 218/4, a massive total at that time, and went on to win the match convincingly. This innings remains one of the most iconic moments in T20 World Cup history.
