Teachers’ Day 2026: Education Minister Pays Tribute To Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Hails Teachers

Union Education Minister Prahlad Joshi on Teachers’ Day highlighted the important role of teachers in shaping students’ futures, saying that they help young people build knowledge, skills and confidence.
In a video message shared on social media on Friday, September 5, Joshi paid tribute to former President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is observed as Teachers’ Day in India.
Remembering Dr Radhakrishnan, the Union Minister described him as a visionary teacher whose contribution to education continues to inspire people. He said Teachers’ Day is an opportunity to recognise the efforts of teachers who work every day to help students develop focus, skills and self-confidence.

This year, 82 teachers from school education, higher education and skill development have been selected for the National Teachers’ Award 2026. The awardees include teachers who have contributed to education through innovative practices and the effective use of technology.
The minister also highlighted the role of inclusive education, sports, arts and skill development in creating better learning opportunities for students. He said the contributions of teachers in these areas are helping students gain skills and opportunities beyond traditional classroom learning.
According to Joshi, quality higher education and committed teachers are among the key foundations for building a stronger future for the country. He expressed his gratitude to teachers for going beyond their traditional role of imparting knowledge and helping prepare the next generation.
The minister said the efforts of teachers also contribute to strengthening the foundation of a Viksit Bharat by helping students become more confident, skilled and prepared for the future.
