Gurugram police have issued a Work from Home advisory for all corporate offices for two days straight through its official X handle. Delhi remains under severe red alert, and high chances of schools will opt for virtual classes or a proper school holiday.
Wayanad, Kerala, is also on high alert because of the landslide, and several districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka also continue to receive heavy rainfall. Although not every district has officially declared a school holiday for July 9, 2026, looking at the current weather conditions and IMD report, there is a high chance that the schools in these states will go for virtual classes or a school holiday. Surat: Schools Closed Due to Waterlogging
Due to the heavy rain in the city and district of Surat, the schools across the city have been shut down as per the announcements made by the local authorities. Surat District Education Officer Bhagirathsinh Parmar said, “We have decided to keep schools in Surat city and the district closed due to the heavy rainfall forecast, keeping the safety of students in mind. Rainwater entered several schools on Tuesday, and we do not want to take any risk.”
Places across the city without heavy rainfall are operating normally. Waterlogging across the city brought life to a halt, with power outages and water entering premises of offices and schools across the city.
Delhi and Gurugram: High Chances of School Closure Amid Heavy Rain
Delhi NCR has witnessed severe and continuous rainfall over the last few days. It has led to waterlogging and high traffic congestion. Most schools in Delhi have given a school holiday, but there is no official update from the district administration yet.
In Gurugram, as the offices are closed for two days, it is expected that the schools will also be closed or on virtual mode. Although no city-wide school holiday has been announced. Schools in all of Delhi NCR, which include Noida, Faridabad, Delhi and Gurugram, are advised to take precautionary measures if the weather conditions get more severe.
Maharashtra: District Administrations Monitoring Rain Situation
As per the latest updates, due to extremely heavy rainfall and widespread waterlogging, the Palghar District Collector has declared a holiday on 9 July 2026 (Thursday) for all educational institutions across Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation and the entire Vasai Taluka. The order applies to Anganwadis, Government & private primary and secondary schools, Zilla Parishad schools, Aided & unaided schools, all colleges, ITI and vocational training institutes.
Several districts of Maharashtra have been witnessing severe rainfall since the start of this week. Earlier, authorities had declared school holidays in Mumbai, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Lonavala and many nearby regions because of extremely heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Dehradun for today, July 9, 2026. In Karnataka, holidays are for schools, PU colleges and Anganwadi centres in Hosanagar and Sagar taluks of Shivamogga district due to continuous rainfall and strong winds.
Kerala School Holiday July 9: Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram Closed Amid Heavy Rain Alert
In Kerala, district authorities have confirmed a holiday for July 9, 2026, for schools in Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram districts.
