CBSE Introduces Digital Screen Marking System for Class 12th Board Exams from 2026

CBSE Class 12 Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced a change in the CBSE Class 12 marking scheme. According to the notification issued, the board has now introduced new On-Screen marking for class 12 examinations. 

According to the notification release, the new marking scheme for CBSE Class 12 has been introduced to enhance efficiency and transparency. The On-Screen Marking (OSM) for the evaluation of Class XII answer books will be applicable from the CBSE Class 12 examinations 2026. The evaluation of CBSE Class X answer books will, however, continue in physical mode as before in 2026.

CBSE Class 12 Marking: Benefits of On-Screen Marking

CBSE has introduced the on-screen marking for class 12 answer sheet evaluation to ensure that the marking process is smooth for teachers and increases efficiency and transparency. The benefits of on-scree marking includes - 

1. Elimination of totalling errors. 

2. Automated coordination, reducing manual intervention. 

3. Faster evaluation with wider teacher participation. 

4. Teachers can remain in their schools and continue regular duties

5. Savings in transportation time and costs

6. Post-result verification of marks will no longer be required

7. Reduced manpower requirement for verification

8. Opportunity for all schools to contribute to the evaluation

9. Involvement of teachers from all affiliated schools globally

10. Environmentally sustainable digital evaluation

CBSE Class 12 answer sheet on-screen marking will be applicable for the 2026 examination onwards. Affiliate schools have been asked by the board to make sure that the schools are ready for the new marking process, with the following

• Computer lab with Public Static IP

• PC/Laptop with Windows 0S 8 or above, 4 GB RAM or higher, and 1 GB free space on C:/ drive.

• The latest internet browser

• Adobe Reader

• Reliable internet connectivity (minimum 2 Mbps)

• Uninterrupted power supply

To facilitate the smooth implementation, the board will allow its teachers with OASIS IDs to log in and familiarise themselves with the system, conduct multiple dry runs for practice, Organise training programmes to explain the system, establish a call centre for issue resolution and release instructional videos for better understanding. The detailed instructions for each activity will be issued separately to ensure timely action by all stakeholders.
