CBSE Class 12 Result - List of Documents Issued by the Board
1. CBSE Class 12 Mark sheet
After the declaration of the result, the board also issues the mark sheet of the students. A mark sheet essentially lists out the marks scored by the students and contains both practical as well as theory marks obtained by the student in a particular subject. The mark sheet also has the grade of the students but does not carry a grade point average of CGPA. CBSE has also removed the practice of mentioning the percentage scored by the students.
The board issues a physical as well as a digital mark sheet to all students who pass the class 12 board examination. The printed physical mark sheet is sent to the schools within a few days after the declaration of the result. However, the digital form of the mark sheet is available at the time of release of results. Students can download this digital mark sheet from DigiLocker account. Username and password for the same will be issued by the board and shared with registered schools. Students can access the same using the password provided.
2. CBSE Passing Certificate
Along with the mark sheet, the board releases a passing certificate. For Class 12, the certificate name is All Indian Secondary School Certificate Examination or AISSCE. This is the official document that is mandatory for admission to any higher education institute as well as for other career roles and government recruitment. Marks of the student are not mentioned in the certificate and it only specifies that the student ‘passed’ the examination.
Like the mark sheet, the passing certificate’s physical copy is also shared by the board for the students. The digital copy is available for download from the DigiLocker account against the passwords provided.
Students and parents may please note that while the DigiLocker copies of mark sheet and passing certificates are accepted by universities for admissions, most colleges request a copy of the printed certificate as well. Furthermore, the physical printed copy is usually requested for other legal documentation, including for Passports as well as by universities abroad. It is hence important for students to collect the physical documents as issued by the board from their respective schools.
3. Migration Certificate
CBSE in 2024 announced its decision to do away with the physical copy of the Migration Certificate. As a common practice, CBSE issues a migration certificate to all Class 12 students upon declaration of the result. This certificate is especially important for students moving from one state to another or to state universities from the central board.
The board in 2024 announced its decision not to issue the physical copy of the Migration Certificate from the 2025 result onwards. Only the digital copy of the certificate is issued by the board in the student’s DigiLocker account. This certificate, the board has confirmed, is acceptable.
However, in case a university mandates the physical copy of the Migration Certificate, CBSE has provided the option for the students. A request can be made on the online portal of the board for the printed copy of the migration certificate. This, however, is chargeable and would be issued against the receipt of the fee. The amount has to be checked but was set at Rs. 500 in 2025.
Apart from these certificates issued by the board, the schools also issue a Character Certificate as well as provisional certificates for the registered students. Since actual certificates are available for download immediately upon declaration of results, the provisional mark sheet and certificates have been discontinued by most of the schools.
Students may please note that the certificates will be issued by the board and available for download only after the declaration of Class 12 results. Students can download the digital mark sheet and get it stamped from their school principal for getting admission into a university. University Grants Commission, UGC has mandated that universities/ colleges must honour the digital mark sheet and passing certificates and cannot refuse the students.
