Baba Ramdev whose original name is Ram Kisan Yadav, was born in Alipur village in the Mahendragarh district of Haryana. He studied yoga and became one of the most well known teachers of yoga in the country. During his teachings he used to promote the idea of returning to Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine, and natural products, and away from multinational brands. That is how Patanjali came to existence. 

Acharya Balkrishna was born on August 4, 1972, and he met Baba Ramdev while studying at the Khanpur Gurukul in Haryana. He became a close associate of Baba Ramdev and both of them along with Acharya Karamveer, first established the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust on January 5, 1995 in Haridwar. 

Under this trust, they started running an Ayurvedic pharmacy called Divya Pharmacy. It was the success of Divya Pharmacy that they launched Patanjali Ayurved Limited in 2006.
