The Indian government has allowed four China-linked power equipment companies to participate in government projects for next two years. By allowing these companies, the government hopes to ensure the timely completion of power projects. Keep reading to know in detail.
What Has the Government Announced?
The Finance Minister has allowed four Chinese companies to participate in government power projects. These companies have been exempted from the public procurement rules. This exemption is temporary and applies to these four firms. The exemption was given based on recommendation of the ‘registration committee’ constituted under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
Which Four Companies Have Been Allowed?
The four companies that have received the exemption are TBEA Energy India, Nanjing Electric India, New Northeast Electric India and Taikai Electric (India). These companies manufacture important equipment such as transformer, circuit breakers and switchgear.

Why Did India Take This Decision?
The Indian government is focusing more on solar and wind energy projects. Along with investing in expanding the electricity network to ensure a power supply across the country. Officials believe that allowing these companies to participate in the tender could help avoid delays in major projects.
What Were the Earlier Rules?
The restrictions were introduced in 2020 after a violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control. Following the clash, Chinese companies had to take special permission from the government before participating in public procurement projects.
Why Is This Decision Important?
The decision is expected to improve the availability of power equipment and reduce delays in important electricity projects. With a faster supply of equipment will help complete electricity infrastructure on schedule.
