JEE Main 2026 Ranking Criteria: Tie Breaker and Factors Affecting Your Rank
JEE Main scores are normalized to percentile scores across multiple shifts to ensure fairness due to varying difficulty. A percentile indicates the percentage of candidates scoring equal to or below a candidate in a shift, with the top scorer getting 100. NTA uses these percentiles (up to 7 decimal places) to generate NTA scores and the final merit list, using a tie-breaker for identical total percentile scores.
Tie-Breaking Criteria: If two or more candidates have the same percentile score, NTA assigns in the following order:
- Higher Mathematics Percentile score
- Higher Physics Percentile score
- Higher Chemistry Percentile score
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally across all subjects.
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Mathematics.
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Physics.
- Candidate with fewer incorrect answers proportionally in Chemistry.
- If still tied, candidates are assigned the same rank.
