The National Teachers Award 2026 is one of India’s highest honours for school teachers. President Droupadi Murmu will present the award to 48 teachers at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on Teachers Day, September 5, 2026. Of these 26 are male and 22 are female, representing 27 States, 7 Union Territories and 6 Central Government organisations. The teachers were selected through a three stage process at the district, state and national levels. Selection Criteria for National Teachers Award 2026

Teachers are selected through a three stage process at the district, state and national levels

Eligible teachers can apply online through online self nomination on the ministry of education portal

The evaluation is based on performance and objective criteria

Teachers are assessed on their innovative teaching practices

Improvement in student learning outcomes is a key parameter
