BITS Pilani Social Conduct Course: The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has pioneered a significant shift in technical education by integrating a mandatory "Social Conduct" course into its core curriculum for all first-year undergraduate students. This credit-bearing program was introduced for the 2025–2026 academic year and is offered at its international campuses in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai. This course, in contrast to conventional academic disciplines, is intended to promote social literacy, emotional intelligence (EQ), and a deep comprehension of personal and professional boundaries. By making this a "General Institute Requirement," BITS Pilani guarantees that the soft skills required to successfully navigate the challenges of contemporary adulthood and demanding academic settings are matched with technical proficiency.

The curriculum addresses important modern topics including consent, gender sensitivity, mental health resilience, and responsible digital citizenship. It was created in partnership with the social company Striide. Students can interact with interactive modules on bystander intervention and the prevention of sexual misbehavior (POSH) at their own leisure in this course, which is offered in an asynchronous online version on the institute's learning management system.

By emphasizing comprehensive development, this program, supported by Vice Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, demonstrates a commitment to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. By incorporating social responsibility into the curriculum, BITS Pilani hopes to produce not just top-notch scientists and engineers but also responsible, compassionate individuals who can lead honorably in a multicultural society.
