India-Egypt Joint Military Exercise: The 11th meeting of the India-Egypt Joint Defence Committee (JDC) was held in Cairo from 20 to 22 April 2026 to further deepen their defence cooperation under the Strategic Partnership (2023) and MoU on Defence Cooperation (2022)On the sidelines of the meeting, the first-ever Navy-to-Navy staff talks were also held.

The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) Amitabh Prasad and senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the armed forces, while the Egyptian delegation was represented by senior officials from its Ministry of Defence and armed forces. 

During the meeting, both countries agreed on a Forward-Looking Defence Roadmap (2026–27) focusing on expansion of military-to-military engagements, intensification of joint training exercises, enhancement of maritime security cooperation, increasing scale and complexity of military exercises, and strengthening defence production and technology collaboration.

Joint military exercises act as 'defence diplomacy' to strengthen bilateral ties, building trust between nations, enhancing operational interoperability, and reinforce preparadeness for real-world security challenges. 

The armed forces of both countries engage in joint tactical drills, combat simulations, and survival and operational training. These exercises focus on advanced tactics, including counter-terrorism, drone operations, and grey-zone warfare, reinforcing strategic partnerships.

Here are the list of key joint military exercises between India and Egypt:

Exercise Cyclone

Exercise Cyclone is a bilateral joint military exercise between the Indian Army (Para Special Forces) and the Egyptian Army.

The exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations, desert warfare, and special operations.

It is conducted annually on a rotational basis to enhance interoperability in desert and semi-desert terrain. It was started in 2023. 

  • Exercise Cyclone-IV (2026), the fourth edition of this joint military exercise between India and Egypt was conducted from 9 to 17 April 2026 in Anshas, Egypt.
  • Exercise Cyclone-III (2025) held from 10 to 23 February 2025, at Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan, India.
  • Exercise Cyclone-II (2024) held from 22 January to 1 February 2024, at Anshas, Egypt.
  • Exercise Cyclone-I (2023), the inaugural edition held in January 2023 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India.

Note: The 'Desert Cyclone' exercise is a separate military exercise conducted between India and the UAE.

Exercise Desert Warrior

Exercise Desert Warrior is a bilateral exercise conducted between the Indian Air Force and the Egyptian Air Force.

The exercise aims at improving interoperability and enhancing operational cooperation between the air forces of both countries. 

The first joint air exercise "Desert Warrior" between the Indian Air Force and the Egyptian Air Force took place on 30 to 31 October 2021.

Exercise Bright Star

Exercise Bright Star is a biennial, multilateral military exercise held in Egypt. It is a major tri-service (Army, Air Force, Navy) exercise hosted by Egypt and the United States.

Initiated in 1980 following the Camp David Accords, it is one of the largest joint military drills in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The 19th edition (Bright Star 2025) took place from August 28 to September 10, 2025, featuring over 700 Indian Armed Forces personnel alongside troops from numerous other countries.

For India, participation in Bright Star reinforces its strategic partnership with Egypt, advances the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative, and boosts defense diplomacy in the region.
