The Delhi government has approved a 20 percent reservation for ex-Agniveers in Group C posts including positions such as police constables and jail warders. Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed the concerned departments to implement the policy by June 30 which will require amendments to the existing recruitment rules. The decision comes as good news for former Agniveers seeking opportunities in government service after completing their tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
What is the objective behind giving 20% Reservation to Ex-Agniveers?
The new policy is expected to create greater employment opportunities for ex-Agniveers in the government sector. Under the decision, a 20 percent reservation will be provided in direct recruitment to Group C posts in departments such as Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, Prisons, and the Forest and Wildlife Department, offering former Agniveers a pathway to continue serving in public roles. Saxena chaired a high-level meeting attended by the Chief Secretary, Police Commissioner and other senior officials. During the meeting held on June 8, 2026 the idea of recruiting ex-Agniveers into the Delhi Fire Service was discussed which has now been expanded and is being implemented across multiple departments.
