IITs To Stop Campus Hiring From 22 Companies For Two Years Over Unhonoured Job Offers
IITs have decided to stop cooperating with 22 companies for the next two placement seasons after more than 150 job offers made to 2026 graduates across 23 IITs were not honoured. The AIPC will formally inform the companies by September 30 and will refer to the action as “non-cooperation” rather than blacklisting.
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to stop cooperating with 22 companies in campus recruitment for the next two placement seasons after the firms failed to honour job offers made to students graduating in 2026. Oracle reportedly withdrew around 40 offers across IITs.
The decision was taken earlier this month at a meeting of the All IITs Placement Committee (AIPC) at IIT Guwahati. The AIPC is the central coordinating body for placement and internship guidelines across the IITs. The committee will formally communicate the decision to the companies by September 30.
“We have made a decision that by September 30, we will write an email telling these companies that we are not going to be cooperating for recruitments for the next two years,” said AIPC convenor and IIT-Guwahati associate professor John Jose.
The panel will not use the term “blacklisting” for the action and will instead describe it as “non-cooperation” in its communication to the companies.
Oracle Records Highest Unhonoured Offers
More than 150 offers across 23 IITs are involved in the cases. According to Jose, some companies withdrew between 10 and 15 offers. The names of the 22 companies have not been disclosed by the AIPC so far. Several startups are also reportedly part of the list.
According to campus sources cited by ET, Oracle is among the companies facing the two-year non-cooperation action after reportedly failing to honour around 40 offers across IITs. Jose said Oracle has not approached the IITs for recruitment so far this year. The final list of companies and the exact number of unhonoured offers are expected to be compiled after individual IITs submit updated details of their cases.
The AIPC had set September 15 as the deadline for companies to onboard students to whom they had extended offers. The latest action follows the issue being handled separately by individual IITs last year. This year, the communication will be sent collectively by the AIPC. Jose said last year around 10-11 companies had not honoured offers and that this year’s figure is the highest in recent years.
The committee is also working to reduce the impact on students affected by the withdrawn offers. Placement offices have shared the CVs of such students with existing recruiters and requested them to consider the candidates for available positions. Jose estimated that around 20-30% of the affected students secured jobs through these cross-referrals.
However, the IITs do not have a complete record of how many affected students are still looking for jobs. Some students may have secured employment independently through off-campus applications or personal networks without informing their respective institutes.
“Once students graduate, maintaining a complete record of their employment status becomes difficult,” said Jose.
The AIPC’s decision comes ahead of another placement cycle and is intended to address the concerns of students whose offers were not honoured while also maintaining the reliability of the IIT campus recruitment process.
