Show Key Points

A fresh confusion has come up between Bareilly College and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University over the conduct of examinations during the summer vacation period. The issue began after the university announced that summer vacation would start from May 25, while examinations at Bareilly College are still continuing and are expected to go on till the third week of June. This has created concern for students, especially those from outside colleges whose examination center has been allotted at Bareilly College. With exams still in progress and teachers likely to go on leave during the period. The college administration has raised practical difficulties in managing everything smoothly.

Bareilly College Says Staff Shortage Will Become a Serious Problem

Prof. Om Prakash Rai, Principal of Bareilly College, has written to the Controller of Examinations and clearly explained the situation. According to him, annual university examinations began at the college on April 16. Not only that, even semester exams for Law students are also scheduled to begin from 22 May 2026.

Since Bareilly College has also been made an examination center for students of outside colleges, the pressure on faculty members and non-teaching staff is already very high. The principal stated that all staff members are working with full dedication to complete the examination process properly. However once the summer vacation begins professors will go on leave as per the vacation schedule and this will create a major shortage of manpower.

Bareilly College Ready Only for Its Regular Students During Vacation

The principal made it clear in his letter that during the summer vacation period Bareilly College will only be able to conduct examinations for its own regular students. He has expressed his inability to manage examinations for outside colleges at the same center during the time.

This means students from other colleges who were assigned Bareilly College as their exam center may face inconvenience if alternative arrangements are not made quickly. The college administration has asked the university to take necessary action and shift or reorganize the examination arrangements for these outside students.

University Order Says Academic and Exam Work Will Continue

While Bareilly College has highlighted the practical difficulty, the university administration has taken a different stand. As per an order issued by the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, the admission process, ongoing examinations, evaluation work, and other necessary academic tasks will continue as scheduled even during the summer vacation. The order also mentions that teachers who take part in examination duties or other academic work during the vacation period will be given compensatory leave according to the rules. This leave can later be adjusted at the principal level.

Why This Situation Matters for Students

The situation is important to be resolved as it directly affects students' convenience and examination management. If a college selected as exam centre does not have enough staff available then conducting exams in an organized and fair manner becomes difficult. For the outside students this sudden change in the examination center can create stress, confusion and travel related problems.

A Clash Between Policy and Practical Reality

The main problem here is the difference between administrative orders and ground-level reality. On paper, the university has allowed important academic work to continue during summer vacation. But at the college level managing staff availability is not easy, especially when regular vacation rules apply to teachers and employees. Bareilly College’s position appears to be based on practical concerns rather than opposition to the university. The college has not refused examination work entirely. Instead it has said that it can only handle exams for its own regular students during the vacation and may not be able to manage extra responsibility for outside colleges.

What May Happen Next?

Now the responsibility lies with the university administration to decide the next step. It may either issue special instructions to ensure enough staff remains available at Bareilly College or it may arrange different examination centers for students from outside colleges.A timely decision will be important to avoid confusion among students and to ensure that examinations continue without disruption. Since the law semester exams are also about to begin, the matter needs quick coordination between the university and the college administration.
