800 State Schools in Odisha Set for Model Transformation Under New CM Initiative

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that approximately 800 schools in Odisha are set to be transformed into model educational institutes under the central PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. According to a PTI report, this initiative aims to modernize the state's academic landscape by integrating advanced infrastructure, smart classrooms, and digital education tools. By implementing innovative teaching methods, the project seeks to establish these schools as benchmarks for high-quality learning and technological integration within the region.

During an event at Kushaleswar Government High School in Keonjhar, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted several aspects of his vision for the state's education system:

• The Purpose of Education: The CM emphasized that education should be viewed as a foundation for building a meaningful life, rather than just a means to secure employment.

• Essential Skills for the Modern Era: In today’s competitive landscape, academic knowledge must be supplemented with:

• Practical skills
• Creativity
• The cultivation of new ideas

• Holistic Learning at Kushaleswar Government High School: Majhi praised the institution's approach to schooling, noting that it balances traditional textual knowledge with the teaching of ethics, discipline, and core values.

The state government has set aside over ₹31,997 crore in the 2026-27 budget to improve schools and mass education. To strengthen the teaching staff, 20,000 teachers were hired in the last 18 months, and there are plans to hire 45,000 more in the near future. Additionally, work is beginning to build a Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary School in every panchayat to ensure high-quality basic education is available in every local community.

Following the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, these schools aim to teach candidates the importance of fairness, including everyone, and respecting different cultures.
