Show Key Points
As global discussion is all around Artificial Intelligence, India is currently hosting the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi from February 16 to February 20, 2026. While much attention has been paid to AI policy and innovation, industrial robotics remains a key pillar of real-world automation.
Robots are no longer limited to advanced economies; they are now central to manufacturing competitiveness worldwide. According to the latest data released by the International Federation of Robotics, factory robot installations have reached record levels.
Here in this article, let’s check the list of the top 10 countries by annual industrial robot installation, and how these countries are shaping the future of global manufacturing of robots.
Global Overview of Industrial Robot Installations
According to the IFR’s latest data:
-
542,000 industrial robots were installed globally in 2024.
-
Installations have more than doubled over the past 10 years.
-
Annual deployments crossed 500,000 units for the fourth consecutive year.
-
Total operational stock reached 4,664,000 units, reflecting a 9% annual increase.
-
2024 recorded the second-highest installation level in history, only slightly below the peak recorded two years earlier.
Asia remained the dominant region, accounting for 74% of new installations, followed by Europe (16%) and the Americas (9%).
“The new World Robotics statistics show 2024 the second-highest annual installation count of industrial robots in history - only 2% lower than the all-time high two years ago,” says Takayuki Ito, President of the International Federation of Robotics.
She also added by saying that, “The transition of many industries into the digital and automated age has been marked by a huge surge in demand. The total number of industrial robots in operational use worldwide was 4,664,000 units in 2024 – an increase of 9% compared to the previous year.”

Regional Performance By Different Countries
Asia
Asia continues to lead in global robot installation.
-
China accounted for 54% of global installations, with 295,000 units installed in 2024 — the highest ever recorded in a single country.
-
Domestic manufacturers now hold 57% of China’s market share, a significant rise compared to a decade ago.
-
China’s operational robot stock crossed 2 million units, the highest globally.
-
Forecasts suggest sustained annual growth averaging around 10% through 2028.
-
Japan remained the second-largest market globally with 44,500 installations, despite a slight decline.
-
The operational stock rose to over 450,000 units.
-
Moderate growth is expected in the coming years.
-
Republic of Korea installed 30,600 units, maintaining its strong global position.
-
India achieved a new record with 9,100 installations, growing 7% year-on-year in 2024.
-
The automotive sector accounted for 45% of installations and ranked sixth globally in annual installations of robots.
Europe
-
Around 85,000 installations of robots were done in 2024 by Germany, which marks the 8% decline but is still one of the highest totals in history.
-
The European Union accounted for 80% of regional installations.
Key countries:
-
Germany led Europe with 26,982 units, holding 32% of Europe’s total market share.
-
Italy installed 8,783 units.
-
Spain followed with 5,100 units, supported by automotive demand.
-
France recorded 4,900 units.
-
The United Kingdom installed 2,500 units, reflecting market normalisation after a tax incentive-driven surge in 2023.
United States
-
The US has installed 50,100 units in 2024.
-
The United States accounted for 68% of regional demand with 34,200 units installed.
-
The U.S. largely imports robots from Japan and Europe, but has strong domestic integration expertise.
-
Mexico installed 5,600 units, with 63% driven by automotive manufacturing.
-
Canada recorded 3,800 installations, closely tied to automotive investment cycles.
Global Economic Outlook and Robotics Growth
Economic forecasts from organisations such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) project global growth between 2.9% and 3.1% through 2026. While geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions may affect short-term trends, the long-term trajectory for robotics remains positive.
Industry projections indicate:
-
575,000 robot installations expected in 2025 (6% growth).
-
Annual installations are likely to exceed 700,000 units by 2028.
Conclusion
At the global level, for the future of AI and robotics, major factories and companies of different countries are expanding for automation.
Despite the regional fluctuations between countries, industrial robot adoption is never skipped, and it always continues to grow, which is mainly driven by Asian countries, specifically China, Japan, and India
With operational stock reaching record levels and future projections remaining strong, robotics will play a central role in shaping the next phase of global manufacturing transformation.
