"Life's too short to deal with other people's insecurities."

- Anthony Hopkins

Who is Anthony Hopkins?

Sir Anthony Hopkins, born as Philip Anthony Hopkins on December 31, 1937, is a two time Academy Award winning Welsh actor known for his intense acting skills. Some of his iconic roles were in the movies: The Silence of the Lambs, The Father, Meet Joe Black, and Thor Ragnarok (as Odin). Besides acting, Hopkins is known for his philosophical take on life. He is the oldest actor to win an Oscar at the age of 82 for the movie The Father, where he essayed the role of a man struggling with Dementia.

Context of the Quote

This quote by Hopkins is a part of an interview where he shared his views on his long career. He reflected on the time when he was a young man, he worried a lot about what people thought of him and in doing so he let their fears and insecurities affect the choices he made.

But, as he grew older, he started understanding that trying to please everyone is an utter waste of time. He also learned to set boundaries which made him less concerned and more happy. By making up his mind to not carry the emotional baggage of others, he found peace and happiness.

Meaning of the Quote

This quote by Hopkins reminds us that everyone of us has a limited time to live on the earth, and when we forget that and let ourselves get occupied with someone else’s fears and insecurities, we tend to pull our happiness and peace back.

Hopkins says that it is not our job to fix people who are insecure about us. You can lend a helping hand at best, but that person has to let go off his/her insecurities first. If you try to make them comfortable while sacrificing your peace and happiness, you will not be living the life that you once dreamt of.

You must focus on your own growth and use your time and energy to do something that makes you happy.

Applicability of the Quote in Real Life

The best way to apply this quote to your life is to look at people around you, notice how someone tries to pull you down by being negative to you. If you see someone who is jealous of you or your success, just because they did not make the right choices in their life and are stuck now, you need to maintain distance from such people. This doesn’t mean you pick a fight or say bad things, just consciously avoid their company.

Try to build a strong mindset. When you see people judging your choices, it actually reflects their own insecurities. Spend time with people who motivate you, rather than ones who try to force their insecurities upon you.

To conclude, this quote of the day by Anthony Hopkins tell us to protect our peace of mind and focus on our own happiness. That is how we can find the balance that we are seeking.
