Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be inside an airplane for most of an entire day as it passes through the sky from day to night, and back to day again? Some flights do that and it is quite fascinating to look at the sky changing colours while you are in the air. So, today we will discuss which is the longest nonstop flight in the world and all the interesting facts about it.

The longest non-stop flight route is actually Xiamen Airlines from JFK Airport in New York to Fuzhou Changle International Airport in southern China (as of October 2025). It's a Chinese airline that few outside the aviation industry know, but now it has beaten down a few of the giants of the industry in terms of the longest flights.
The distance covered by this flight is 7077.7 miles and/or 12,505 kilometres. To put it in comparison, the entire length of India from the North to South is about 3000 kilometres in length. This one flight covers four times that distance without a single stop.
Why Does This Flight Take So Long?
Here is where things actually get interesting. The reason for the extra-long flight time is that Xiamen Air does not fly through Russian airspace, so the flight has to take a longer route to avoid it. Part of the reason for this prolonged amount of time is due to Russian airspace being avoided since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Who Was the Record Holder Before This?
Singapore Airlines was the longest flight with a distance of 9,537 miles and duration of more than 18 hours before Xiamen Airlines. An Airbus A350-900ULR aircraft is used for this flight.
Singapore Airlines' Newark to Singapore flight takes 19 hours and 10 minutes while Xiamen Air's JFK to Fuzhou journey now takes 19 hours and 20 minutes. Only 10 minutes, but that's significant in the world of aviation records.
What is Coming Next?
The record may not last for too long. Australia's national carrier, Qantas, is working to launch its direct Sydney to London and Sydney to New York services, called Project Sunrise in early or mid 2027. The name is given because passengers on the new service will witness the sunrise twice during the flights. The distance between Sydney and London is 10,573 miles and could take about 20 hours.
The world's longest non-stop flight is a strong example of how far man's technology and ambition has gone.
