Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei was born in 1939 in Mashhad, a city in northern Iran. He was one of the child among 8 children in his family, and his father was a religious scholar. At the age of 23, while studying religion, he became a part of Khomeini’s revolutionary movements. Apart from his study, he was also a secular opposition intellectual and enjoyed music, poetry, and reading.
