₹5,000 crore investment to supply 24 hours of continuous power to every household and farm
It is the Punjab government, under the command of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, which has initiated the 'Roshan Punjab' scheme, leading way to big change in the power domain. The aim of this scheme is to provide 24-hour affordable and trustworthy electricity in Punjab by next year. The Chief Minister has stated, "This scheme is not electricity alone; it is the symbol of Punjab's light and progress.
The government has invested ₹5,000 crore in the scheme, the biggest investment in the power sector till now. Power Minister Sanjeev Arora and PSPCL Chairman Ajay Kumar Sinha are overseeing the project.
The government has purchased the GVK Thermal Plant at Goindwal Sahib, keeping the production of electricity in state hands. The long-term supply of coal from the Pachhwara mine has also been secured to provide constant electricity generation.
Under 'Roshan Punjab,' the construction is in progress in the state on new substations, transmission lines, and voltage enhancement schemes. In 13 municipal corporations, PSPCL has also introduced a program to rectify loose wire, open meter boxes, and ageing lines.
A 180-seat, cutting-edge call center has been opened in Mohali to improve efficiency in the 1912 helpline.
This scheme will not only banish power cuts but also empower industries, agriculture, and consumers of domestic nature. 'Roshan Punjab' is indeed a big move towards lighting up all corners of the state.
