Previously, the government had declared Friday, June 6, as the Bakrid holiday. However, to align the holiday with the actual date of celebration, Friday, June 6, will now be a regular working day for all government offices, public sector undertakings, and educational institutions, including professional colleges, and those governed by the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Officials emphasized that this adjustment ensures the holiday truly reflects the day of observance by the people.
No Holiday for Tamil Nadu Schools on Friday
Tamil Nadu's team that checks facts quickly announced that the rumors saying schools, colleges, and government offices would be closed this Friday, June 6, 2025, are not true. These fake messages were spreading fast online and were created by computer programs (AI). Officials made it clear that the news, which wrongly claimed Prime Minister Modi announced a holiday, is false.
The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has also plainly said that all schools will be open on Friday, June 6. The real public holiday for Bakrid (Eid al-Adha) in Tamil Nadu is scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2025. This is on the state's official holiday list for this year (2024-25). Even though states like Kerala and Telangana have a holiday on June 6 for Eid al-Adha, Tamil Nadu will have its holiday on June 7.
