UPSC ESE 2025 Prelims Exam on June 8:  The UPSC ESE prelims exam will be conducted in two shifts and serves as the first stage in the three-tier selection process. The UPSC ESE 2025 Prelims examination will be conducted on June 8, 2025, in two shifts. The first shift will start at 9:30 AM and the second shift at 2:00 PM. Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre well in advance as per the instructions mentioned in the admit card. The Mains examination for UPSC ESE 2025 will be conducted on August 10, 2025.

What is the IES/ESE Exam?

The Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam, also known as the Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is a national-level examination conducted by the UPSC. It is considered one of the most competitive exams in the country and recruits Group A and Group B officers for technical positions across various ministries and departments of the Government of India.

The ESE exam is conducted for recruitment in four core engineering branches:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

UPSC ESE 2025: Selection Process

The UPSC conducts the IES exam every year to recruit candidates for various technical posts under the Central Government. The ESE 2025 examination is conducted in three stages:

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Mains Examination
  • Personality Test (Interview)

Final selection is based on the cumulative marks obtained across all three stages. Candidates who qualify the Prelims will be eligible to appear for the Mains exam.

UPSC ESE Exam Pattern 2025

The exam pattern of UPSC ESE Prelims exam consists of two papers. The first paper is the General Studies & Engineering Aptitude. The second paper is the Discipline-specific paper. The total marks for both the papers are 500 marks. The exam will be of 2 hours duration for each paper.
