With the CBSE Class 12 results recently declared on May 13, 2026, a massive wave of Indian school-leavers is eyeing global universities. However, gaining entry into prestigious international institutions requires looking far beyond a high board exam percentage. Leading universities utilize a holistic assessment model, making standardized aptitude metrics like the SAT or ACT (for undergraduate programs) and GRE or GMAT (for advanced tracks) vital for balancing out regional board differences.

Most of the class 12th students are considering to avail admission opportunities at universities abroad and to get it, a lot of universities across the world demand more than good marks from the CBSE board. 

They will generally request your academic record and general profile as well as standardised test scores and evidence of English language proficiency.

English Language Tests

English language tests may be required for admission to Indian students. Popular destinations like the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia accept exams like IELTS and TOEFL. 

They are tests that measure the skill in reading and writing, listening and speaking, and the minimum score requirement is different for every course and university.

SAT and ACT: Undergraduate Admissions Abroad

For undergraduate courses, including the USA, SAT or ACT scores might be required. The exams are mainly based on Mathematical, English and in some formats, Science reasoning skills. 

These scores are adopted in many Universities as a part of the mechanism of comparing applicants from various education boards and countries.

GMAT, GRE And Subject Tests: PG and Advanced Courses

Depending on the institution and program, students with an interest in seeking a business or management degree at higher levels may require GMAT scores. 

Many universities may also need a GRE or subject tests for postgraduate and research courses (master or PhD). Requirements vary from course to course and careful reading is crucial.

Entrance test and language test scores, and a review of an overall profile (which can include Statement of purpose, recommendations etc and Extracurriculars). 

It is better to plan in class 11 or the beginning of class 12 so that you can be able to take tests with ease and complete the application formalities.
