A peninsula is a landform surrounded by water on most of its border (three sides) while being connected to a mainland from which it extends. The word 'peninsula' comes from the Latin 'paeninsula', from 'paene' ('almost') and 'insula' ('island').

The Arabian Peninsula, or simply Arabia, is the largest peninsular region in the world located in the extreme southwestern corner of Asia. The peninsula is mostly surrounded by water.

The peninsula is surrounded by the Red Sea on the west and southwest, the Arabian Sea on the south and southeast, the Gulf of Aden on the south, and the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf on the east.

Known as the largest peninsula in the world, the Arabian Peninsula has an area of approximately 3.25 million km², roughly comparable to India. Geographically, the Arabian Peninsula is bounded by Mesopotamia and the Levant to the north and northwest.

The peninsula was formed between 56 to 23 million years ago as a result of the Red Sea Rift involving the African and Arabian plates. The Arabian Peninsula and the Syrian Desert merge seamlessly in the north with no clear demarcation, however, the northern boundaries of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait mark the conventional boundary.

Oman

Oman is a country in the southeastern Arabian Peninsula in West Asia. It shares borders with Yemen, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. It was oldest independent state in the Arab world. Oman's oil reserves are ranked among the 22nd largest globally. A portion of Oman's economy thrives on tourism, and trade of dates, fish, and other agricultural produce. The capital of Oman is Muscat, and the currency is Omani Rial.

United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country in West Asia. It is situated at the eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. UAE has a federal semi-constitutional monarchy. It is made up of seven emirates. Then the Trucial States, under the British influence, gained full independence in 1971 and transformed itself into the United Arab Emirates. The capital of UAE is Abu Dhabi, and the currency is United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED).

Qatar is a country in West Asia. It occupies the Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East. Qatar has the world's third-largest natural gas reserves, primarily located in the massive offshore North Field. The country is also among the world's top three LNG exporters. The capital of Qatar is Doha, and the currency is Qatari Riyal.

Bahrain

Bahrain is an island country in West Asia. Situated near the western shore of the Persian Gulf, the country comprises a small archipelago of 33 natural islands and an additional 50 artificial islands. Bahrain is located between Qatar and the northeastern coast of Saudi Arabia. The capital of Bahrain is Manama, and the currency is Bahraini Dinar.

Kuwait, a country in West Asia, is situated at the head of the Persian Gulf in the northeastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula. It became an independent state in 1961, and since then the country's official name has been the "State of Kuwait". Kuwait is a city-state, most of the population of the country resides in the Kuwait City. Kuwait has the world's sixth-largest oil reserves. The capital of Kuwait is Kuwait City, and the currency is Kuwaiti Dinar.
