Kannada is not just spoken in the urban areas of Karnataka, such as Bangalore, Mysore, and Hubli, but it is also widely spoken in the rural areas of Karnataka. 

The language is also well known for its extensive literary contribution through various poets and writers through the ages. 

It was for this reason that the Indian government conferred upon Kannada the status of a classical language in 2008.

Today, the Kannada language is spoken not only in Karnataka but also in neighboring states, with around 45-50 million speakers.

3. Telugu

Telugu is spoken by a large number of people in Karnataka, especially the border districts of Kolar, Tumkur, and Ballari. There is a great population of Telugu-speaking families residing in Karnataka for generations.

4. Tamil

The language Tamil is used by groups residing in the border regions of southern Karnataka. These include regions that lie close to Tamil Nadu. The Tamil language is an ancient classical language in the world.

5. Marathi

The language Marathi is spoken in the northern Karnataka regions, including Belagavi and Bidar. The groups speaking Marathi have been residing in these regions for long periods of time. It is an Indo-Aryan language.
