Why is celebrating Engineers' Day very important for India?
India celebrates Engineers’ Day on September 15 every year to honour Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (1861–1962). He was one of the greatest engineers in India’s history. He was popularly known as Sir MV. He was instrumental in many modern systems, such as the Irrigation system, for flood protection measures, and he was also a part of the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Karnataka.
He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna Award in 1955, which is India’s Highest civilian award. His vision and brilliance in engineering laid the foundation of India’s progress in infrastructure development, water resources management and industrial development.
Conclusion
Engineers’ Day in India not only commemorates the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya but also serves as a reminder of the critical role engineers play in nation-building. The celebration of Engineers’ Day reminds us of what our engineers have done to pave the way for national development in infrastructure, in managing resources, and in industrialisation. This day marks a very important milestone in India.
