UPSC Result 2026: The Union Public Service Commission will be releasing the UPSC result 2026 for the preliminary examination conducted on 24 May 2026. UPSC Result 2026: The UPSC is expected to release the Prelims result 2026 anytime soon. It has been reported that around 5 lakh candidates have appeared for the Prelims examination 2026. These many candidates have applied for 933 vaccines rolled out by the UPSC for CSE 2026. Candidates are eagerly waiting for the UPSC to release the results, as it will help them in deciding their future course of action. The UPSC has also released the Prelims Provisional answer key this year and also allowed the candidates to raise objections against this key. Now, the Prelims results are awaited.

UPSC Prelims Result 2026 Date Based on Past Trends

If we look at the previous year trends of the UPSC, it can be predicted that the UPSC might release the UPSC Prelims result between 12-15 June 2026. Last year, in 2025, the Prelims was conducted on 25 May 2025 and the results were declared 17 days after the exam on 11 June 2026.

    The UPSC follows a long-established tradition of releasing marks, answer keys, and official cut-offs only after the entire Civil Services Examination cycle concludes. This includes completion of the Main Examination, Personality Test, and final result declaration.     But, this year, UPSC has did the unusual thing by releasing the provisional answer key for the Prelims and also opened the objection window. This means that the cut off marks can also be released alongside the prelims result after analysing the marks from the official key.

    UPSC Prelims Result 2026: Do the candidates need to qualify both the Prelims Paper?

    The candidates who have appaered for this year's Prelims examination must be knowing that how much it is important to score marks in both the Prelims paper- GS and CSAT individually. Although, the CSAT paper is qualifying in nature, meaning you have to secure only 33% marks i.e. 66.67 marks, but most of the aspirants falter to obtain these marks. In contrast, GS Paper 1 requires a candidate to obtain marks eqaul to or more that the cut off marks released by the commission. Therefore, the candidates need to obtain good marks in GS paper.

    UPSC Prelims Result 2026: Role of CSAT in result preparation

    Most of the candidates who have just started their UPSC Civil Services journey are unaware of the fact that the CSAT paper is only qualifying in nature and has little role in the Prelims result preparation. The CSAT paper consists of 80 objective type questions (MCQs) for 200 marks. Each question carries +2.5 marks and a neagtive marking of 1/3rd is assigned for each incorrect response. No penalty for unattempted questions. The candidates are need to secure 33% marks in the CSAT in order to be considered qualified in GS Paper 2.

    UPSC Prelims Result 2026: How to calculate your scores?

    The candidates can calculate their scores in the Prelims examination by analysing their answers with the answer key.

    • Verify your marked answers with the answer key.
    • Now calculate how many questions you have attempted correctly and how many are incorrect. Each question carries +2 marks in GS Paper 1 and +2.5 marks in CSAT. There will be a deduction of 1/3rd marks in both the papers for incorrect responses.
    • Example for Calculating Scores in GS Paper 1: Suppose, overall you have attempted 70 questions. Out of which, 55 questions are marked correctly and remaining 15 are incorrect then your total score will be:
      • 55x2= 110
      • 15x0.33= 4.95
      • Total Score= 110-4.95= 105.05
    • Scores for GS Paper 2/ CSAT: Candidates are required to qualify the CSAT as this is the qualifying paper and you need to obtain 33% marks in the paper.

    UPSC Prelims Result 2026: Exam Pattern of Prelims

    UPSC Prelims exam pattern consists of oobjective type questions (MCQs) for both the papers: GS and CSAT. Check the exam pattern here:

    • GS Paper 1: GS paper consists of 100 questions for 200 marks which means each question carries +2 marks. There is also provision for negative marking, 1/3rd marks are deducted for each incorrect answer. Therefore, the candidates should do guess working in a limited scope.
    • CSAT Paper 2: CSAT paper consist of 80 MCQs for 200 marks, meaning each question carries +2.5 marks. Negative marking also applies to the CSAT paper i.e. 1/3rd marks are deducted for each incorrect response.

    UPSC Prelims Result 2026: Difficulty Level of Paper

    The UPSC Prelims consists of two paper- General Studies and CSAT. The candidates are required to appear for both the papers to be considered for the preparation of the result. This year, the UPSC has once again changed its course, and presented a paper which is considered to be toughest of all times. The General Studies Paper 1 or GS paper was very different from the usual lines. 

    • Questions were lengthy which require more time to decode, analyse, and optimise for answers.
    • GS paper also contained questions from Ethics which are not a part of the Prelims syllabus.
    • These type of questions require much time to solve and hence, 2 hours time was not sufficient to solve such questions.

    Therefore, the overall difficulty level of the exam considered 'Difficult'.

    • Go to the "What's New" section on the homepage and select the link for the "CSE Prelims 2026 Result."

    • If the roll number is available in the pdf, then you are qualified to appear for the Mains examination.

What Next After Qualifying UPSC Prelims 2026?

UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) consists of a three stage selection process. The candidates need to qualify each stage individually in order to be selected in the final merit list. Preliminary examination is the first stage and the candidates who qualify Prelims will be shortlisted for the Mains examination. The Mains is a descriptive exam consisting of 1 Essay paper, 4 GS papers, 2 Optional papers, and 2 Language papers. The UPSC Mains 2026 is scheduled to commence from 21 August onwards.
