| Did you know? Out of the 28 questions in the ‘Current Affairs Including General Knowledge’ section of CLAT-UG 2025, 19 had answers found in the passages on which the questions were based. Of the remaining 9 questions, only 3 were directly related to current affairs. |
In CLAT-UG 2024, out of the 28 questions in the ‘Current Affairs Including General Knowledge’ section, 20 had answers found directly in the passages.
So, is reading the passages in this section important?
I suggest that you read the questions first, and if necessary, read the passages.
Most of the passages in this section are usually from August, September and October. Do not take it as a rule.
Can you read all the editorial pieces of a newspaper that you haven’t covered in the past 3 months? It is more than doable: 184 (92*2) editorial pieces (8-10 editorials per day).
How many mocks should be done?
To me, almost four sections of this test, except for Quantitative Techniques, assess your reading comprehension skills. Therefore, the importance of practising mocks cannot be overstated. A mock test should ideally be completed in 110-115 minutes to simulate the pressure of the actual test. You can practice 15-18 mocks with proper analysis in the last 20 days. Since the actual test is from 2 to 4 pm, you should start your mocks at 2 pm. A mock, along with its analysis, should not take you more than 3 hours a day.
Once you begin a section, try to complete it in one go, especially in the first 60 minutes of the test. Jumping from one section to another too frequently is a waste of time.
You may not always feel motivated, but stay committed to the process. Sometimes, your performance might fluctuate, as it does for everyone, but don't let it get to you too much. Just analyse and keep moving forward.
You should be aware of the order in which you need to attempt all five sections, but remain flexible in case of extreme circumstances. Mocks prepared by coaching institutes might contain some errors. Please do not get too caught up in analysing that.
As the errors in CLAT-UG 2025 reached the apex court, I expect the paper to be much improved this year (completely free of errors).
Avoid counting the questions you've answered during the test; it can harm your performance.
When should the ovals be shaded in the OMR sheet?
Once you complete three sections, fill in the OMR sheet. It also gives you some time to relax. When five minutes remain, fill in the OMR sheet for the next part of your work. Then, shade the oval after answering each question.
| Are you ready for surprises? In 2024, it was the first time in the ‘Current Affairs Including General Knowledge’ section of CLAT-UG that a majority of the questions had answers found in the passages provided. |
Analytical Reasoning made a comeback to CLAT-UG in 2025, after a five-year absence. This surprise also brought an unexpected twist!
Can there be a surprise this year?
Where do you want to be?
CLAT-UG 2026 will be the third CLAT-UG, following a 120-question pattern.
-
The AIR 1 in 2024 scored 108 out of 118 (2 questions were dropped).
-
The AIR 1 in 2025 scored 103.50 out of 113 (7 questions were dropped).
What is the size of your hunger?
Please study the table given below carefully. It shows the top 5 NLUs (based on the CLAT-UG 2025 ranks of the students who joined them). Only those students have been included who did not have any reservations (vertical or horizontal).
| NLU | Best Rank | Lowest Rank | Median Rank | No. of seats offered |
| NLSIU Bengaluru | 1 | 112 | 53 | 91 |
| NALSAR Hyderabad | 17 | 162 | 131 | 51 |
| WBNUJS Kolkata | 57 | 327 | 238 | 47 |
| NLU Jodhpur | 167 | 367 | 303.50 | 68 |
| GNLU Gandhinagar | 164 | 444 | 374.50 | 40 |
Where do you see yourself in the table above?
The table below gives us the raw scores for some All India Ranks (AIRs) in CLAT-UG 2025.
| CLAT-UG 2025 AIR | Raw Score (out of 113) |
| 35 | 98.75 |
| 55 | 98.00 |
| 145 | 95.00 |
| 210 | 94.00 |
| 235 | 93.50 |
| 360 | 92.00 |
| 440 | 91.25 |
| 615 | 89.25 |
| 1060 | 87.25 |
| 1225 | 86.50 |
As shown, just a 2-mark difference (91.25 and 89.25) can lead to a 175-point difference in the AIR (440 and 615).
Even a fraction of a mark counts; leave no stone unturned.
Beyond CLAT-UG 2026
CLAT-UG is the first law entrance exam of the season. AILET-UG is nearly as important as CLAT-UG, and you have only 7 days to prepare for it after taking the CLAT. You will learn about your provisional marks in CLAT-UG on the same day as the exam.
You must stay focused on the AILET, regardless of how you perform in the CLAT.
There is a full-time, residential, 5-year programme - B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) in Adjudication and Justicing - offered by MNLU Nagpur, for which you need to apply separately. The notification for this course is usually published in December or January.
An episode on December 7, 1941, altered world history forever. Pearl Harbor…
