For the upcoming 2027 fiscal year, the White House has put forth a record setting $1.5 Trillion defence budget.
This will be the largest military budget since World War II while continuing to engage in an active war with Iran.
The proposed budget represents a more than 40% increase over the previous year, which is a result of a rise in the cost of maintaining and supporting military forces and providing for the forward deployment of US troops throughout the world, as well as an ongoing effort to improve the USA's defence capability.

Why is the White House Seeking a $1.5 Trillion Budget?
Rising military expenditure due to war-related demands
A fundamental cause of the large-scale military funding request is the fact that there is continuous military operations in the war against Iran.
The existence of war means that there is a requirement for an ever-increasing level of funding to support troop deployments, sustain the logistics associated with these operations, procure weapons used in combat and intelligence systems needed to provide command and control of modern military operations.
Due to the nature of modern warfare requiring using large amounts of resources, a protracted conflict significantly increases costs when advanced technologies and worldwide deployment are factored in.
Replenishing Equipment and Munitions
Another significant driver of the requested funding is to replace the numerous expenditures that occur during times of active conflict.
Munitions such as missiles and ammunition, and all types of defence systems, will be consumed at an extremely rapid rate in current active combat.
Therefore, a portion of this funding request will be used for reconstituting these stocks and also for maintaining the ability to respond quickly to any future conflicts.
Investing in next-generation military technology
In addition, the White House is using this funding request to invest in technology that will provide improved defence capabilities in the long term.
For instance, this next-generation technology includes missile defence systems, cybersecurity systems, artificial intelligence as it relates to the conduct of warfare, and military capabilities that are based in space.
This initiative is an overall effort to maintain technological superiority over any nation identified as a potential rival on a global basis.
Enhancing the global military presence
The US military has a substantial presence worldwide. By increasing funding, additional support will be provided for the expansion of naval capabilities, air power, and overseas bases, particularly in areas of geo-strategic importance.
In particular, the ongoing conflict with Iran demonstrates the necessity of maintaining rapid response capabilities and a strong regional presence.
