Maybe Happy Ending Steals the Show
The South Korean-inspired musical ‘Maybe Happy Ending’ swept six awards, marking a standout moment in Tony history. Creators Will Aronson and Hue Park took home the award for Tony’s Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. The production was set in late 21st-century Seoul and revolved around two helper-bots discovering love and their own identities. It also secured a Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical win for Darren Criss, who additionally received an award as one of the show’s producers.

Sunset Blvd., starring Nicole Scherzinger, also won three awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
Best in Play Categories
- The play Purpose, written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, won Best Play and added a second award to its name, continuing the playwright’s streak of critical success.
- Sarah Snook was recognized as Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her wonderful performance in ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’.
- Moving forward, Cole Escola won Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Oh, Mary!, which is one of the most-talked-about performances of the season.
- Kara Young also made history as the first Black actor to win a Tony two years in a row, claiming Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for Purpose.

Some of the productions, including Dead Outlaw, John Proctor Is the Villain, The Hills of California, and Good Night, and Good Luck, left empty-handed even after multiple nominations.
