Glennon was born March 20, 1976, in Burke, Virginia. She was brought up there only alongside her sister, named Amanda. From a very early age and initial time, she started battling with bulimia and addiction. To much surprise, these were the experiences that later shaped her writing. 

She openly discussed her mental health struggles, including her stay in a mental hospital, in her TEDx talk, ‘Lessons from the Mental Hospital’. This talk was mostly viewed among all, gaining her much appreciation and recognition.

Glennon Doyle completed her B.A. from James Madison University in 1999 and after graduating began her career in professional life as a teacher in Northern Virginia.

Career

Doyle began her writing journey with her blog Momastery in 2009, offering candid reflections on motherhood and life as a progressive Christian. This led to her first memoir, Carry On, Warrior, in 2013. The book was filled with humour, faith, and vulnerability, earning her national recognition.

Later, in 2016, she released Love Warrior, which was chosen for Oprah’s Book Club 2.0. But it was her 2020 memoir, Untamed, that became a phenomenon. It was also selected for Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club, has sold over two million copies, and is being adapted into a TV series by J.J. Abrams, with actress Sarah Paulson cast in the lead role.

Podcast and Public Presence

Glennon has also launched the podcast ‘We Can Do Hard Things’ in 2021, which is co-hosted by her wife, Abby Wambach, and sister Amanda. The podcast is based on the themes of Untamed, gained rapid popularity, and won two Webby Awards in 2024, including Best Co-hosts and Best Individual Episode.
