Pete Hegseth Names General Christopher LaNeve as New Acting US Army Chief of Staff

In a big change at the Pentagon, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked General Randy George to retire right away. He has also named General Christopher LaNeve as the new acting US Army Chief of Staff.

Who is Christopher LaNeve? Career and Background

General Christopher LaNeve has been in the Army for more than 36 years and is a veteran infantry officer. He got to the top of the Army by taking on high-stakes command roles and working closely with the current defense leadership.

• Early Commissioning: LaNeve earned his commission in 1990 through the University of Arizona’s ROTC program.

• Combat Experience: He has led troops in multiple theaters, including Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

• Elite Commands: Notably, he served as the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division (2022–2023) and the Eighth Army in South Korea.

• Strategic Role: Before becoming Vice Chief, he served as the Senior Military Assistant to Secretary Pete Hegseth, placing him at the center of recent policy implementations.
