Sindoor Sapling, A Special Tree with a Deep Meaning: The Sindoor Sapling is a unique plant whose red flowers are used to make sindoor. It is a traditional red flower that symbolises courage, strength and respect for women in Indian culture. The tree gained national attention when it was planted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign. It is a mission to plant the trees in honour of one’s mother and Mother Earth.
Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Campaign by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for the Govt. School
On June 9, 2025, Rekha Gupta, Delhi CM, planted a Sindoor sapling at a government school in Shalimar Bagh and said, “The Prime Minister planted this tree too, and I wanted to do the same. Today, that wish has been fulfilled.”
Her act marks the beginning of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign in Delhi schools.
Purpose and Goal Of the Campaign
The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the environment and honour motherhood with the help of a tree plantation drive.
- The CM has announced that around 70 lakh trees will be planted this year.
- Every person is encouraged to plant at least one tree in their mother’s name.
- All government departments and schools will be actively participating in this.
